Keeyask

Generating Station

The project was to construct a new 695MW hydroelectric site located on Nelson River in northeastern Manitoba.

The project consisted of a seven (7) unit powerhouse, a seven (7) bay spillway, a 1500m long central earth dam and 23 km of earth dykes.

Our work

Manitoba Hydro selected Chant to prepare an independent AACE Class 2 contractor style capital cost estimate.

Our work consisted of developing a cost estimate to support Manitoba Hydro in developing a Target Price Contract for the $1.3 billion General Civil Works Package.

Deliverables included detailed means and methods as well as constructability reviews.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • The Keeyask Hydroelectric Generating Project was developed by the Keeyask Hydropower Limited Partnership, a partnership between Manitoba Hydro and three First Nations.
  • The contract was awarded to the Bechtel/Bernard/EllisDon Joint Venture for a figure very close to Chant’s estimated tender value.
  • During execution of the work, Manitoba Hydro engaged Chant to identify and assess opportunities for improvement (OFIs) in the delivery of the project.  This was an ongoing site-based process where we reported directly to Winnipeg and as part of our scope, were required to share our findings and OFIs with senior management representatives of the contractor at site and facilitate implementation of adopted changes.
