Chant has successfully completed a wide range of projects and technical service assignments over the last 20 years. Responsibilities have included producing third-party construction, operations and maintenance cost estimates and execution schedules as part of an owner’s cost confidence processes, providing detailed constructability reviews, acting as owner’s representative (project manager, construction manager, quality inspection and safety monitor) to functioning as an at-risk construction manager or general contractor.

CHANT SAFETY CULTURE
Due to both the nature and intensity of the work we perform, our clients have extremely high expectations of our health and safety culture and performance. We deliver on these expectations.
Our safety culture is premised on training such that all our personnel (and those our personnel have responsibility for) have the requisite knowledge and tools to perform their tasks safely and the unfettered right to refuse work. We develop our safe work procedures using the best practices available in the workplace.

INDIGENOUS PARTNERSHIPS
Most lands within Canada are the traditional territories of First Nations, and consequently they are host to many of our projects. The unequitable recognition and utmost respect for the role of host is of paramount importance to our approach to First Nation relationships. Over the years Chant has enjoyed several partnerships, joint ventures, contractual and social license-based relationships with First Nations in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia.
Our longest standing active relationship is with the Pic River First Nation. We have been their business partner since 2010 with respect to the operation and maintenance of their 5 MW Twin Falls hydropower facility near Manitouwadge, Ontario. Our scope of work incudes day to day operations, optimization of energy production while ensuring compliance with water management plans, outage response and the tracking of maintenance backlog. We plan and coordinate annual preventative, standard and non-standard maintenance projects and produce internal cost control, production and agency compliance reports. Since assuming responsibility for operation and maintenance of the station, Chant has steadily transitioned from the use of third-party entities for routine maintenance items to community members and entities.
A 5 MW Twin Falls Generating Station, Manitouwadge, Ontario. It is actually the first generating station in Ontario owned and operated by a First Nation.
FOSTERING AN ENVIRONMENT OF EXCELLENCE
Ted has served 2 terms as a PEO volunteer within the Licensure Assistance Program, assisting recent graduates and foreign trained engineers in obtaining their professional status in Ontario.
Ted is also a member of the University of Toronto Master of Civil Engineering – Hydro Emphasis advisory board and subject matter expert lecturer for 2 courses – Hydropower Fundamentals and the Renewal of Hydropower Facilities.
Ted’s topics include risk management systems in the hydropower industry and construction delivery models and contracts within the Fundamentals course. Renewal course topics are the renewal of dams, dykes, canals, tunnels, spillways and sluiceways.
